Iran Internet Shutdown Enters 12th Day, NetBlocks Reports

0

Internet monitoring group NetBlocks says the nationwide internet shutdown in Iran has entered its twelfth day, severely limiting access to online services across the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, NetBlocks said that after more than 264 hours, internet connectivity in Iran remains at just one percent of normal levels, indicating a near-total blackout.

Iran’s presidential office spokesman has confirmed that only individuals placed on an official “whitelist” currently have access to the internet during the shutdown.

State-run Iranian media outlets continue to operate online and broadcast the government’s position regarding the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.

Authorities in Iran imposed the internet blackout shortly after the start of US and Israeli military strikes against Iranian targets earlier this month.

The government has previously used similar measures during periods of unrest, including in January when internet access was restricted for more than two weeks following widespread protests.

Reports say prolonged internet disruptions can isolate populations, limit access to information, and make it more difficult for residents to communicate with the outside world.
