In 1742, a Swedish astronomer proposed the centigrade temperature scale simplifying global scientific communication, weather tracking and metric alignment. Anders Celsius developed a 100-degree scale for measuring temperature with a mercury thermometer. His original scale was later reversed, creating the Celsius scale used in science, weather reports and daily temperature measurements.
