Kazhydromet issued a warning for residents of Astana and Almaty

Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a weather warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities.

“On June 16, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Karaganda, Temirtau, Almaty, Astana, and at night in Atyrau,” the statement said.

Unfavorable weather conditions refer to a combination of short-term meteorological factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower atmospheric layer.
An inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air is trapped above cooler air, forming a sort of lid. Normally, warm air at the surface rises, carrying pollutants away. But during an inversion, cool air is trapped at the bottom along with emissions, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollutants build up near the ground, especially in urban areas.
