Kazakhstan’s police switched to enhanced duty regime
Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan’s police have switched to enhanced duty during the New Year holidays.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Crime Prevention chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
“From 23 December, the police have moved to an enhanced duty regime. The number of officers on duty has been increased, and security has been strengthened at especially important state and strategic facilities. Patrol routes have been shifted closer to weapons shops and penal institutions,” Lepekha said.
Additional patrols have also been deployed near entertainment venues. Reserves have been put on standby. Public information efforts are being carried out to remind citizens to comply with the law and safety measures.
“It is necessary to build an effective system for preventing crimes on the streets and in public places, and to organise visual monitoring of the operational situation, including through the use of video cameras. Where necessary, prompt response to incidents must be ensured.It is also necessary to implement a set of preventive measures to avert terrorist attacks at sites with large crowds of people. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations must switch to an enhanced duty regime,” the Prime Minister instructed.

Operational activities
As part of the “Law and Order” (OPM “Pravoporyadok”) operation, those registered with the police, firearms owners and foreign citizens are being checked. Operations “Yel” and “Pyrotechnics” have been launched.
During the holidays, round-the-clock duty is being ensured at venues hosting mass events, security has been reinforced at critical infrastructure facilities, operational headquarters have been deployed, and road traffic supervision has been tightened.
It should be noted that the beginning of 2026 will please Kazakhstanis with an extended holiday period.
