738 families from labor-surplus regions relocate to northern Kazakhstan
One of those who has tied his future to North Kazakhstan is 19-year-old Kemal Yeneleyev. A couple of years ago, he moved from Kentau to Petropavlovsk under the resettlement program. He now works at a major electrical engineering company while also pursuing higher education.
“I moved to Petropavlovsk two years ago under the resettlement program. I bought an apartment here through the factory and am paying it off while working. I received 4.5 million tenge from the state and used it toward my housing. I work as a high-voltage coil winder. I usually wind coils, converting low voltage into high voltage,” the resettled resident said.
Specialists from labor mobility centers help resettled residents and kandas adapt to their new surroundings. The centers operate in 13 districts and in the regional capital.
Minister of Labor and Social Protection Askarbek Yertayev said one of the main tasks is to provide newcomers with stable employment and protect their rights. He recommended that career centers step up information campaigns in southern regions so that more potential participants are aware of opportunities to relocate to the north.
“The most important thing is employment. At the moment, our career centers work on the principle that if a person comes in, they receive a consultation, and if no one comes, staff simply wait for the next person. We are changing this approach. A digital employment service is being introduced, including a mobile app that will allow every job seeker to find work faster without having to visit a career center,” the minister said.
The TV channel noted that all newcomers relocating to North Kazakhstan Region receive state support, including one-time relocation payments, subsidies for rent and utility bills, as well as assistance with employment.
In addition, resettled residents can receive an economic mobility certificate worth 7 million tenge to help them purchase their own home.
By the end of the year, the region is ready to accept a total of 800 families from southern regions. Quotas have also been allocated for 65 kandas families.
