From +32°C to frost: what September 2026 will be like in Kazakhstan
Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet forecasters have presented an advisory weather forecast for September 2026 in Kazakhstan. The first month of autumn is expected to be generally close to the climatic norm, although some regions may be warmer or wetter than usual, while frosts are possible in Astana and Almaty.
What temperatures are expected in September
According to the forecast, the average monthly air temperature across most of Kazakhstan will range from +9°C to +15°C. In the southwestern half of the country, as well as in some areas of the northwest and center, temperatures are expected to range from +16°C to +22°C.
Overall, air temperatures are expected to remain close to normal. However, in most of West Kazakhstan Region and in western parts of Atyrau and Mangystau regions, the average monthly temperature may be one degree above normal.

Where more rain is expected
Precipitation in September is expected to be close to normal across most of Kazakhstan.
Above-normal precipitation is forecast in North Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions, most of West Kazakhstan and Akmola regions, northwestern Atyrau Region, northeastern Kostanay Region, the far north of Karaganda Region, as well as the northern halves of East Kazakhstan and Abai regions.
Below-normal precipitation is expected in most of Kyzylorda and Turkistan regions, the southeastern half of Mangystau Region, southern Aktobe Region and southwestern Zhambyl Region.

What Astana can expect
In Astana, the average September temperature is expected to be +12.2°C, close to the climatic norm of +12.6°C.
At the beginning of the first ten-day period, a sharp drop in temperature is forecast. At night, temperatures may fall from +15…+20°C to +1…+6°C, with ground frosts of up to 2°C possible. Daytime temperatures are expected to fall from +27…+32°C to +13…+18°C. Temperatures will then rise again to +5…+10°C at night and +17…+22°C during the day.
During the second ten-day period, another warming spell is expected, with nighttime temperatures rising to +10…+15°C and daytime temperatures to +22…+27°C. This will be followed by another cold spell, with temperatures falling to +1…+6°C at night, possible ground frosts of up to 2°C, and +13…+18°C during the day. Temperatures are expected to rise again toward the end of the period.
At the beginning of the third ten-day period, a sharp cooling is forecast. Nighttime temperatures may drop to +1…+6°C, while daytime temperatures may fall to +6…+11°C. A slight warming is then expected, with +5…+10°C at night and +11…+16°C during the day.
Rain and strong winds with gusts of up to 15–20 metres per second are possible at the beginning and middle of the first ten-day period, in the middle of the second and at the beginning of the third. Fog is possible at the end of the second and third ten-day periods. Hail may occur in the middle of the second and at the beginning of the third period, while squalls are possible at the beginning of the third.
What September will be like in Almaty
In Almaty, the average air temperature in September is expected to be +17.5°C, close to the norm of +18°C.
During the first ten-day period, nighttime temperatures may fall from +14…+19°C to +4…+9°C, while daytime temperatures may drop from +26…+31°C to +16…+21°C.
During the second ten-day period, warmer weather is expected, with nighttime temperatures rising to +8…+13°C and daytime temperatures to +22…+27°C. Temperatures will then fall again to +3…+8°C at night and +15…+20°C during the day. Another warming spell is forecast toward the end of the period.
During the third ten-day period, a gradual cooling is expected. Nighttime temperatures may fall from +8…+13°C to +1…+6°C, with ground frosts of up to 1°C possible. Daytime temperatures are expected to decrease from +20…+25°C to +12…+17°C.
Brief rain and stronger winds with gusts of up to 15 metres per second are possible in the middle of the first ten-day period, at the beginning and end of the second, and in the middle and at the end of the third. Squalls are forecast at the beginning of the second ten-day period. Thunderstorms are possible at the beginning and middle of the first period, as well as in the middle of the second. Fog may occur at the end of the second ten-day period.
