Arsenal youngster credits Rice’s guardiance for career development after signing first professional contract

Arsenal youngster Teshaun Murisa has opened up on the role Declan Rice has played in his development after signing his first professional contract on Tuesday.

Murisa, who joined the club at the age of six, signed his first professional deal after spending 11 years progressing through the Hale End academy.

Speaking after signing the contract, the young midfielder explained that having senior players in the first team to look up to has helped his development.

“I think it’s really important to have players in the first team who you want to be like,” he said. “Because it gives you a goal that you need to aspire to and that you want to reach.

“Especially certain players like Declan Rice, they give you advice and help and tips on what you need to do to get to their level.

Since joining the club, the teenage midfielder has been a key figure at youth level, making steady progress through the various age groups.

Murisa was also part of the team that won the U16 Premier League Cup and featured against Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup at the Emirates Stadium.

The youngster, who has played alongside highly rated talents such as Max Dowman, will be hoping to continue his development and secure a long-term future at the club.

Dowman has been tipped to be a future star for the Gunners, and Murisa may be the next promising talent to follow him into the first-team set-up.
