Kazhydromet issues another warning for Astana residents
Tengrinews.kz - Kazhydromet has issued a weather warning for residents of Astana and other cities.
"On June 12, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and at night in Astana," the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the near-surface layer of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air settles above cold air, effectively trapping it. Normally, warmer air near the surface rises and carries pollutants away. But during an inversion, the colder air stays trapped below, along with vehicle emissions, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates near the ground, especially in urban areas.
