“Like a sauna”: Passengers complain about conditions on Almaty–Kostanay train
Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh passengers are once again voicing complaints about the Almaty–Kostanay train. Travelers reported that in the heat, the air conditioning in the train cars wasn’t working.
A post on the social network Threads drew attention:
“Almaty–Kostanay train. It’s +40 outside, and inside it feels like a sauna — the air conditioners don’t work. Actually, they only work in the driver’s cab. The conductor proudly showed off his invention — a makeshift fan. Tickets cost 20,000 tenge. In the end, children felt sick,” the message read.
The carrier’s press service responded to the situation. They confirmed it was train No. 43 (Almaty–Kostanay).
“In the mentioned car, preliminary data shows a breakdown of the air-conditioning system occurred en route. An internal investigation is underway, including into whether there was a proper technical inspection before the train left. Also unacceptable is the installation of a makeshift ventilation device built by train staff. Such actions violate passenger service standards and internal rules. Disciplinary measures will be taken against those responsible,” Turksib-Astana LLP reported.
They added that when the train arrives back at its base, the car in question will be removed from service for an unscheduled inspection and repairs. Other similar cars will also undergo extra checks to make sure they’re ready for summer travel.
The carrier noted that it is gradually renewing its fleet, with 65 new cars already purchased and in service.
“We sincerely apologize to passengers for the inconvenience,” they added.
Previously, Passenger Transportation reported that women-only carriages were being added to an increasing number of trains in Kazakhstan. These carriages are designated exclusively for women and are staffed only by female attendants.
