What February weather will be like in Kazakhstan - forecasters’ outlook

Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet meteorologists have released the weather forecast for Kazakhstan for February 2026. According to the forecast, February will largely retain its winter character, although noticeably warmer weather is expected toward the end of the month.
Temperatures
Frosty conditions will persist across most regions. In northern and eastern Kazakhstan, temperatures are expected to range from –13 to –18°C, while in the far south daytime temperatures may reach around +3°C.
By the end of the month, temperatures are expected to rise:

in the south and southeast — by +3 to +3.8°C;in other regions — by +0.5 to +1.5°C.

In southern areas of the Turkistan region, a transition from around 0°C to positive temperatures is expected during the first half of February.
Precipitation
Most regions are forecast to receive 6 to 27 millimeters of precipitation. In mountainous and foothill areas of the south, southeast, and east, totals may reach 30 to 110 millimeters.
In northern regions, precipitation will mainly fall as snow, while southern areas will see a mix of snow and rain. In the Turkistan region, about half of the precipitation is expected to be mixed.
Number of days with precipitation:

on average 10–12 days;in desert regions — 6–7 days.

Snow cover
By the end of February, snow depth is expected to reach:

15–35 cm in the north;3–15 cm in the south;70 cm to 2 meters in mountainous areas.

In southern regions, stable snow cover typically begins to break down in the second half of February.
Wind and other weather phenomena
Average wind speeds:

across most of the country — 4.5–7.5 m/s;in the south, southeast, and east — 1–4.3 m/s;in certain areas (the Caspian coast, Mugodzhar Hills, mountain passes) — up to 6–9.5 m/s.

Blizzards, icy conditions, and fog are possible, especially in northern and mountainous regions. In the south, rare winter thunderstorms cannot be ruled out.
