Giants activate outfielder Slater, add two pitchers
DENVER - Outfielder Austin Slater will rejoin the Giants on Tuesday night after what I consider a spectacularly quick recovery from an adductor tear in his groin-hip area.
That's good news for the Giants, who have been robbed of evaluation time with other prospects who are out for the year. Slater has not played since July 7.
He hit .290 in 100 at-bats before he was hurt, and that was after a bit of a downturn. He had hit over .300 for most of his brief stretch in the bigs.
The Giants also are getting some pitching help from Triple-A Sacramento. They have recalled reliever Reyes Moronta and purchased the contract of Roberto Gomez. Both are right-handed.
