‘A Very Sordid Wedding’ an energetic, way over-the-top LGBT comedy

One has to admire the three-ring circus-like showmanship of Del Shores, a comedian and filmmaker who has made his native Texas his personal stomping grounds, in the wacky and very busy comedy “A Very Sordid Wedding.” We have Bonnie Bedelia looking like Dolly Parton in her “9 to 5” phase, a cameo by Whoopi Goldberg, lots of scenery chomping and the outrageous drag performance by character actor Leslie Jordan leading a cast of dozens.

How much you enjoy the comedy that bashes Southern and bible-thumping conservatism depends on how much you enjoy extremely silly, over-the-top comedy. Did we say over-the-top? We’re talking world-record, pole vaulting over-the-top.
