Water Company Gives Classic '90s Diet Coke Ad A Brilliant Queer Makeover

The Huffington Post

Icelandic Glacial water company is paying homage to a classic Diet Coke ad from the '90s in their latest marketing effort -- but with a queer makeover that we absolutely love.

In this reimagining of the ad, a group of women in an office all gather at the window exactly at 10:30 to ogle a hunky surfer as he emerges from the ocean after a morning of surfing. Except it's not just women losing their minds over the dreamy surfer -- a dude joins in the fun, adding a novel queer twist to the narrative. Читать дальше...

Postscript: Liz Swados (1951-2016)

The New Yorker

It was always exciting to see, around town, those lovely posters by Paul Davis announcing a new production at the Public Theatre—“our” theatre, over on Lafayette Street, a place that promoted, before it was fashionable, color-blind casting, knowing that talent itself was not defined by race or gender but spirit. In 1980, the Davis poster showed a young actress named Meryl Streep in a piece called “Alice in Concert.” Its author was Elizabeth Swados, a name I recognized from another Public event a year before... THE WIRELESS CARRIERS REPORT: Industry shake-ups, ripple effects across mobile, and the big changes ahead

BusinessInsider.com

BI Intelligence

The wireless industry is in a state of flux. AT&T and Verizon have dominated the carrier market over the past seven years while T-Mobile and Sprint have struggled to gain subscribers. Then in 2013, T-Mobile tweaked its strategy to turn around its business.

This move, along with slowing smartphone adoption and other forces in the mobile industry, killed the two-year contract and initiated an ongoing price war between carriers. The movement away from the contract... Читать дальше...

Prompt Action Needed to Test Work Incentives for Disability Insurance

The Huffington Post

Last year's budget deal renews the Social Security Administration's (SSA) authority to conduct demonstration projects to encourage work among Disability Insurance (DI) beneficiaries.  As our new paper explains, previous SSA experiments have found that few beneficiaries can earn enough to support themselves and leave DI.  The renewed demonstration authority provides an opportunity to test more new ideas, but the window for action is very brief, so SSA -- which is already working on one project -- should soon decide on others. Money May Not Buy You Love, But It Sure Helps

NPR (npr.org)

Someone has to pay for the cocktails on the first date, dinners in that classy restaurant, the wedding by the beach — and that messy divorce. Here are some fun facts on the economics of romance.

10 Realistic Valentine's Dos and Don'ts For Couples With Young Kids

The Huffington Post

Don't surprise me with a fancy dinner at an expensive restaurant. Want to really impress me? It doesn't take much. Just handle dinner/clean up on your own and make sure I get to eat my meal without interruption. A hot meal cooked by anyone else but me trumps any Michelin star restaurant in my book.

Don't buy me sexy lingerie. It's a waste of money. You saw me give birth, the jig is up.

Don't buy me chocolates. I will end up eating the whole box while I lay in bed and watch Bravo after everyone goes to sleep. Читать дальше...

Last night at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music, as part of their “Heat & Vice: The Films of Michael Mann” retrospective, the legendary filmmaker himself graced the stage for an engaging one-hour-plus talk. Here Are The Things French People Find Slightly Weird In The US

BuzzFeed

Weird but sometimes wonderful too!

Waiters asking you if everything is ok all the time.

In France, waiters will usually leave you alone even if you don't want them to – sometimes, you will literally have to scream for help for them to notice you.
