Immigrant family detention center granted child-care license

HOUSTON - One of the nation's largest detention centers for families caught crossing the southern U.S. border has received a temporary residential child-care license, amid discussions over whether the federal government will keep using such facilities.

Before Steve Jobs rejoined Apple in the 1990s, one of the flagship projects at his company NeXT was WebObjects, a set of tools for making what were called at the time "internet applications." Today we just call them websites.

On an Apple listserv on Tuesday, Java developer Hugi Thordarson emailed a blast saying that Apple had confirmed to him that WebObjects was officially declared dead.

Lawsuit accusing Maine governor of blackmail is dismissed

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit accusing Republican Gov. Paul LePage of using blackmail to force a charter school operator to rescind a job offer to a political opponent in a flap that roiled the Legislature and led to an impeachment effort. An attorney for LePage's opponent in the lawsuit, Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves, vowed to appeal within 30 days to a three-judge panel of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.
