And the Emmy goes to? A TV follower offers predictions

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

I'd like to say I'm confident that "Game of Thrones" and "Veep" will repeat as best drama and comedy series. Will the two revisions combine for big surprises Sunday when the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards air at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC with host Jimmy Kimmel? The battles, the bravery, the betrayal — it's all there and grippingly cinematic as "GOT" winds its way through George R.R. Martin's astounding kingdom. Last year, it (bloodlessly!) wrested the top drama award from Emmy voters typically reluctant to reward fantasy shows. Читать дальше...

American seed and weed-killer company Monsanto and German medicine and farm chemical maker Bayer are combining in a deal that could help farmers produce higher yields to address challenges from global warming to rising food demand from a fast-growing global population. Trump tries to repurpose Clinton's attacks against her

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

[...] it illustrates the way that the newly redesigned Trump campaign has embraced the technique of projection, slapping attacks back on his opponent, whether they fit or not. "What should these parents tell their children about Hillary Clinton's attacks?" Trump asked his audience in North Carolina. He's accused her of being involved with Russia — despite his frequent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his own campaign's ties to the strongman. Trump escalated his attacks, labelling... Читать дальше...

Here’s How Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ TV Ratings Stack Up After One Year

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Fast-forward one year (and one day, that’s how the calendar works) later, and he’s proved to be virtually no threat whatsoever to Jimmy Fallon. From Colbert’s CBS debut, through Friday, September 9, 2016, the former Comedy Central personality has averaged a 0.62 rating in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic. Compare those figures to Fallon, who has hauled in a 1.00 demo rating and 3.652 million total viewers over that stretch. CBS draws an older clientele, explaining away much of that disparity... BusinessInsider.com

Twitch

Twitch, the video game-streaming site Amazon bought for roughly $1 billion, has recently launched a new channel called "Social Eating" — a place where people can watch others eat food live.

If that sounds bizarre, you're not alone. Even Twitch CEO Emmett Shear admits he's not a big "social eating viewer."

But there's a clear reason he's doing it.

For one, social eating is a real thing that's huge in South Korea. Called "Mokbang" in Korean, social eating has a... Читать дальше...
