Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The Senate approved Jeff Sessions on Wednesday as U.S. attorney general, bringing an end to what had been one of President Trump's most disputed nominations.

The holiday begins on Friday evening.

After a contentious confirmation battle, the Senate confirmed Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions as President Donald Trump's attorney general Wednesday evening.

As the head of the Department of Justice, Sessions will now have to define how the federal government will approach marijuana.

Iran conducted a missile test Wednesday in defiance of U.S. warnings against such actions, Fox News reported.
