Trump sided with the Democrats to support a three-month extension on government funding, a three-month debt-limit increase, and a Hurricane Harvey relief package.

Republican leaders were reportedly furious, but the markets were happy. All three major indices rose on Wednesday.

The S&P 500 was the biggest winner, gaining 0.32%.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee officials say the head of the state-run Achievement School District is resigning. Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen said in a news release Wednesday that Achievement School District Superintendent Malika Anderson is stepping down at the end of the month. Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operations Officer Kathleen Airhart will step in as interim superintendent. Ambassador Bridge owner: Canada issues permit for new span

DETROIT (AP) — The owner of the Ambassador Bridge linking Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, says it has received Canadian approval to build a six-lane span next to the existing bridge. Detroit International Bridge Co. Vice Chairman Matthew Moroun issued a statement Wednesday saying it has received the final permit needed for the new span.
