Messi wins La Liga monthly accolade for the first time ever

Reigning FIFA Ballon D’or winner Lionel Messi has been named as La Liga’s Player of the Month for the first time in his career.
Messi lifts his 5th FIFA player of the year award when he was awarded the FIFA Ballon D’or winner on January 11.
The award has been running since September 2013 but amazingly Messi is just claiming his first title despite winning two Ballon D’or in that time.
Barcelona’s official website noted that, this is only time Messi has picked up the monthly accolade while Neymar became the first Barcelona player to win the award in November 2015.

In January, Messi scored six goals in six league games, including a hat-trick against Granada in addition to strikes against Athletic Club, Malaga and, crucially, title rivals Atletico Madrid.
