Here are the best tech deals heading into Presidents' Day weekend

It’s Presidents’ Day weekend, which means it’s once again time for the nation’s retailers to try wooing you with various discounts and deals. Most of the time, those savings apply to clothes, appliances, mattresses, and other general home goods. That hasn’t changed this year.
When it comes to the fun stuff — that is, consumer tech — the savings aren’t nearly as prevalent as they were a couple months back. Still, they aren’t gone completely. Most of the tech deals you’ll find advertised around the web this weekend aren’t all that good, per usual, but after vetting the selections, we’ve found a few early savings that are worth checking out. If others pop up as the holiday(s) near, we’ll be sure to update.
Amazon Fire and Amazon Kindle Paperwhite
AmazonWhile it’s not technically a holiday deal, Amazon’s latest discounts on its Fire tablet and Kindle Paperwhite e-reader are still solid enough to be worth a mention. The former is the most competent tablet you’ll find for less than $50, while the latter is, dollar for dollar, the best e-reader on the market. Up until tomorrow, they’re $10 and $20 off, respectively.
Amazon Fire, $39.99 (originally $49.99), available at Amazon. [20% off]
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, $99.99 (originally $119.99), available at Amazon. [17% off]
Apple iPhone 6s
AmazonWhether or not you think it’s the best, it’s hard to deny that the iPhone 6s is, if nothing else, a great phone for most people. Its follow-up is coming, of course, but if you’re don’t want to (probably) lose the headphone jack, it’ll still be a good device this time next year.
That’s good, since this $100 discount requires a 2-year contract with Verizon or Sprint. Nevertheless, if you’re sticking with either of those two, it’s a deal. Note that this is the 64GB model, too, so you won’t have rough of a time dealing with the iPhone’s storage-related stinginess. Best Buy’s applied the same savings to the iPhone 6s Plus as well.
Apple iPhone 6s (64GB), $100 w/ 2-year contract (originally $199), available at Best Buy.
Huawei Nexus 6P
Best BuyIf Android is more your speed, the Huawei Nexus 6P is equally fantastic, what with its slick build, clean software, and gorgeous 5.7-inch OLED display. There are a few outlets offering this $50 off promotion, but we’ll highlight Best Buy’s here since it gives you a $25 gift card for your troubles. For a smaller option, the 5.2-inch LG Nexus 5X is also great — it, too, is $50 off, now down to $300.
Huawei Nexus 6P (32GB, Unlocked), $449.99 w/ $25 gift card (originally $499), available at Best Buy. [10% off]
