TIFR played a crucial role in gravitational wave detection

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research at Mumbai is now in the process of designing and fabricating a prototype interferometer which will help train and familiarize scientists in the detection of gravitational waves. The project is being spearheaded by TIFR experimentalist C S Unnikrishnan.
