KNBR Conversation with Martin Jones
An edited transcript of an interview with Sharks goalie Martin Jones, who played for Los Angeles against San Jose in the playoffs two years ago:
Could you tell, even though you weren’t in this locker room (in 2014), that this first-round series meant a little bit more than a first-round series would (usually) mean, because it was the Kings?
The opportunity to play these guys, you want to beat the best teams when you go through the playoffs, so it was fun.
Did you sense that your team played differently than (it had) in the regular season?
When everything is going crazy, how do you as a goaltender slow things down a little bit?
For me, I just try to make the best reads I can make on that play, compete hard for any loose pucks around the net, obviously.
Are you the kind of goaltender who wants that long break between series or do you want to start the series right after the last one ends to keep rhythm?
What did it feel like going into (the Kings) series as the No. 1 guy?
Believe you are capable of doing it and get some good help from your teammates and you’ll be all right.
In those pressure situations, to keep calm and cool gives you confidence.
What percentage of goaltending takes place before the shot is taken?
[...] what percentage of goaltending takes place after the shot has been taken?
