– “States should be allowed to fix their minimum wage according to their financial capabilities,” the national APC chairman said
– John Odigie-Oyegun assured of the speedy appointments into various federal boards and parastatals
John Odigie-Oyegun, the national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), suggested to allow states form their minimum wage in accordance with their financial capabilities.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr Oyegun explained that although such decisions is a responsibility of the executive arm of the government, the executive at federal and state levels should consider the demand in line with the state’s ability to pay.

He said: “That is always what happens (the demand) but this must be based on the economic realities on the ground, the ability to pay. Perhaps to even demonstrate that this is not a central but a federal matter, that states should be allowed to make their decisions based on their ability to pay. The cost of living is not the same in every part of the country.”
Commenting on the delay in appointments into various federal boards and parastatal organisations, the chairman assured that the appointments would be made in the near future.

Responding to the question about the attack on Pius Odubu, the deputy governor of Edo state, in Auchi city, he said: “It is our hope that the police will get to the bottom of it and make sure that the culprits are brought to book.”
Besides, the chairman promised that the national headquarters of the ruling party would ensure free, fair and transparent primary election.
It would be recalled that a faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) rejected the N56,000 national minimum wage proposal to federal government earlier sent by the Ayuba Wabba-led NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) demanding N90,000 instead.
