– Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state said the people of the state had no reason to remove the Fulani herdsmen from their community
– He said grazing routes would be created in communities to enable the Fulani herdsmen carry out their duties
– The governor said anybody caught collecting money from the herdsmen would be prosecuted
The governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi has condemned the attack on a community in Enugu state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

He said the people of Ebonyi had no reason to demand that the Fulani herdsmen vacate from their communities as they had a harmonious relationship with the herdsmen, Vanguard reports.

Speaking on Tuesday, May 3, during an enlarged security council meeting at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki, the governor urged security agencies to be on the alert and checkmate the excesses of herdsmen in the state, especially at night.
Umahi also directed that nobody in the state should collect money from the herdsmen and anybody caught in such act will be prosecuted.
He said the government would provide grazing routes in communities to enable the Fulani herdsmen carry out their duties without rancour and disaffection.
The commissioner for justice and attorney-general, commissioner for border, peace and conflict resolution and the special adviser on internal security were directed by the governor to come up with a modality on how to set up a community-based committee in liaison with the police to curb incidences of crimes across the state.

Umahi suspended two development centre coordinators indefinitely, for being absent at the meeting.
The two Coordinators affected are Christian Ngene (Ohaozara West) and Ene Odii Ohaozara Development Centre, both in the governor’s Local Government area, Ohaozara.
They were suspended indefinitely.
Many groups in the southern region have been calling on the herdsmen to vacate their land following recent attacks in the region reportedly perpetuated by the herdsmen especially the recent attack in Enugu.
The federal government condemned the call for Fulani herdsmen to leave the region, saying there was no need to order the exit of Fulani herdsmen since President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that the perpetrators be brought to book.
