Good news: How FG brought smiles back to the faces of IDPs, liberated towns from Boko Haram
The federal government has made it known that all seized food items by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), will be given out freely to all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and to the people living in towns liberated from the Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeastern part of the country.
It was about two weeks ago that Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state lamented that there are more than one million IDPs living within Maiduguri city alone.

ACG Sanusi Usman, who heads the committee set up to take care of the IDPs and distribute the seized foods and goods, made this known to journalists, while leading his team on a courtesy call on Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff at the Military Control Centre (MCC) located at Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

ACG Usman stated that the idea behind setting up of the committee is to ensure speedy delivery of food items to villages and towns, especially those which fall under the liberated towns.
He added that the objective of distributing the food items freely was to encourage displaced persons return to the town they used to live in, before Boko Haram insurgency sacked them from those homes.
While the chairman of the committee on distribution of food items freely, spoke more on the new development, he stated:
“It was proposed that all the seized goods should be distributed to the IDPs. The purpose is to ensure that this platform created by Mr. President is well distributed to the affected areas and not only to the IDPs but mostly to the villages so that the people can go back to their villages.
“We have found out from our experience from the visit to Yobe that there is no need in concentrating at the IDPs but mostly to the villages as most of them are increasingly returning to their communities. Its in this state that many saw the devastation of Boko Haram and were moved.”
“We assure that these products ceased will be distributed accordingly as we have done in Adamawa and some to Edo State. In Yobe State we went to Buni Yadi where lives are returning back to normal. Borno State is very significant because we have about 10 border posts.”
