If you’re going to spend most of your time working at a desk, you might as well do what you can to make the experience less painful.
In that spirit, we’ve rounded up a few quality gadgets that’ll add a little more utility, or just a little more pleasure, to the typical office space.
A mobile device stand
AmazonIf you want to use your phone or tablet as a second screen at your desk, be it to stream video or obsessively watch for notifications, a sturdy little stand will make life easier. The lightweight Kanex iDevice Collapsable Stand works as it should, with mobile devices of all sizes, and includes an extra unit in its $13 price tag.
Kanex iDevice Collapsable Stand (2-Pack), $12.99, available at Amazon.
A mechanical keyboard
AmazonYou don’t need to be a self-proclaimed "gamer" to appreciate the faster, clickier feel of a good mechanical keyboard. Logitech’s new G610 Orion, which we’ve been using for the past few weeks, fit that bill: It’s sturdy and satisfying, with smooth matte keys (that hide fingerprints) and the ever-reliable Cherry MX switches (in either Red or Brown) underneath the hood.
There’s a handy set of basic media controls on top of that, and Logitech’s useful software suite lets you customize a few macros without much trouble. While it can’t put on the same RGB light show as pricier models, there’s still white backlighting, and the whole thing passes as more professional-looking than many of its peers.
Those unfamiliar with this market may scoff at paying $120 for a keyboard, but this is one of those things you have to try yourself to understand. In the G610’s case, you get what you pay for, making it a good value if you’re willing to invest in a better-feeling keyboard that’ll hold up to hours of stress in the years to come. Just try to keep it at home, since, per usual, it can get a little loud.

A wireless mouse
AmazonMost people seem okay living with shoddy mice, but it doesn’t take much to improve upon the commodity unit you’re probably using today. We’ve recommended the Logitech Marathon M705 before, and it’s still a choice that should fit comfortably in most hands. It’s wireless, so you get a little more freedom to move around, and it’ll take years before its AA batteries run out of juice. So long as your computer has a spare USB slot to hold its receiver, it’s a good deal at $33.
Logitech Marathon M705, $32.95, available at Amazon.
