Cal’s Daulton Jefferies to return Monday against Utah

After more than eight weeks sidelined by various injuries, right-hander Daulton Jefferies will return to the mound Monday night for Cal’s series finale against Utah.

Jefferies will make his first start since he threw a complete game in the Bears’ March 24 win over Oregon State.

The 6-foot, 180-pound junior excelled as the Friday starter before his injuries, going 6-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 47 strikeouts in six starts.

Since Jefferies was scratched for that UCLA game last month, the Bears are 17-13.

The selection committee figures to take Jefferies’ return into account when filling out the bracket.
