Sharks’ Joe Pavelski delivers big goals in Game 5 win
ST. LOUIS — From a corner of the dressing room following the Sharks’ 6-3 win over the Blues on Monday, forward Dainius Zubrus attempted to describe what makes Joe Pavelski special.
“It’s just kind of a quiet confidence that he has,” said Zubrus, who has 1,293 regular-season games and now 100 playoff games on his resume.
The Sharks fed off their captain Monday night in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals at Scottrade Center as Pavelski delivered in the clutch once again, scoring the tying goal on the power play with 1:27 remaining in the second period and then the go-ahead goal 16 seconds into the third.
Pavelski has a playoff-leading 12 goals through 17 postseason games — including three two-goal games — after scoring 38 times in 82 games in the regular season.
Because him and Thornton, him and Jumbo, they bring their ‘A’ game every night.
On the first goal, Pavelski found open ice in the slot, took a feed from Thornton from the side of the net and beat goalie Jake Allen top shelf with a one-timer.
