The Jonde Jam Fulani Youth Association has raised alarm over an alleged conspiracy to tag all Fulani herdsmen across the country as criminals.
The group also warned that such a move would affect the unity of the nation and may divide Nigeria.
The Punch reports that Saidu Maikano, the national president of the group, expressed concern while speaking to journalists in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
He stressed that although there were some criminal elements among the Fulani herdsmen, it was unacceptable to tag all herdsmen criminals.
“Criminality is not peculiar to one ethnic group. Criminality has no ethnic or religious attachment and, therefore, should not be used as a Fulani identity,” he said.

Maikano alleged there is a grand conspiracy to evict Fulani herdsmen from the South-South and South Western parts of the country.
Stressing that such a move would be resisted, he added: “This country belongs to all of us; there is no part of the country that has accommodated other ethnic groups like the North and when some of these people commit offences in the North, we don’t brand an entire ethnic group as criminals because as civilised people we should only ensure that the criminals are prosecuted and justice is done.”
Meanwhile, Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared war on the Fulani herdsmen in the state and vowed to raise N2.5 million for local hunters to defend the communities against the attackers.
He also also banned grazing and rearing of cattle in the state, saying those interested in cattle farming should get their own private cattle ranch.
Nigerians, who do not want live in constant fear any more, commended Fayose and expressed hope that other governors would follow his steps.
