Biafra: IPOB discloses action plan
– The Indigenous People of Biafra has criticised those saying Biafra cannot be actualised by mere street demonstrations
– Attributes the civil disobedience of the days of Malcom-X and Martin Luther King Jr to what paved the way for Barack Obama to become president of the USA
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has stated that Biafra can be actualised through civil disobedience or direct action just like the blacks in South Africa did during the apartheid period.
Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have held several protests canvassing for a country of their own.
The pro-Biafra group in a statement issued on Monday, May 23, in Enugu by its spokesperson Emma Powerful, criticised those who said Biafra cannot be actualised by mere street demonstration, Daily Post reports.

IPOB said: “That Barack Obama is the president of the USA today is directly attributable to the civil disobedience of the days of Malcom-X and Martin Luther King Jr. For 27 years, the blacks in South Africa never stopped carrying out civil disobedience until Nelson Mandela was released from prison.
The group which noted that the Arab Spring started with civil disobedience said it was “preposterous and smacks of political illiteracy for some compromised people to make mockery of the well-organized and peaceful civil disobedience by IPOB that has the twin objectives of pressurizing government to release their illegally detained leader and for the restoration of the nation of Biafra”.

Similarly, the group accused northerners of trying to instigate the federal government to carry out genocide in the southeast Nigeria using security operatives.
IPOB faulted the call by Northern groups demanding that Biafra secessionist groups be treated as Boko Haram.
It said the demand by the northerners was similar to the ember of hatred that prepared the ground for the violence in which hundreds of thousands of Easterners mostly women and children, were systematically slaughtered all over Northern Nigeria shortly before the civil war.
