The National Transport Commission bill on Tuesday, May 24, scaled second reading on the floor of the Senate in Abuja.
The bill which was sponsored by Andy Uba, the committee chairman on public accounts, seeks to establish a national commission that will regulate transportation in Nigeria.
However, the lawmakers support for the bill stating that it will help develop the country’s transportation in the country.
Ibn Na’allah representing Kebbi south senatorial district said the bill could not have come at a better time.
He also said the bill is straight forward and urged the Senate to support the bill without further debate.
Barnabas Gemade representing Benue North-east senatorial district while making his contributions said the bill is coming at a time when the management of transportation in the country is confused and disorganised.
He added that when this bill goes to the relevant committee, they should ensure that all aspects of transportation are recognised.

“The moderation of marine transportation has remained illusive. It is important to know that a commission will be best suited to accelerate development in the local content of transportation,” he said.
Senate president Bukola Saraki said “this is one of our priority bill in our legislative agenda. For us to stimulate our economy, we must get our transportation right.
“This bill is urgent so we need to fast track the bill.”
The bill was referred to the joint committee on aviation, land and marine to report back in four weeks.
