Senator David Mark, Nigeria’s former Senate president
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems to have gotten a new motto for its party.
At the party’s convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Saturday, May 21, the former Senate president, David Mark stated that Nigerians have suffered more hardship since the past one year PDP conceded defeat.
Speaking to thousands of PDP faithfuls at the convention ground, Mark said: “We were all waiting very patiently when Dr. Mimiko was addressing and asking very cogent questions and I thought he was going to ask you: “Is fuel cheaper today than it was one year ago?”
And the crowd echoed: “No!”
“We don’t have any more campaign. Is the price of food in the market cheaper today than it was a year ago?”
“No!” The crowd shouted again.
“Is the dollar stronger today than it was a year ago?”
“No!” the crowd answered again.
Mark continued: “But I have a few people from Benue, my message is the shortest, I am going to shout PDP, please listen very attentively to the answer that they will give.”
Then he calls the people from Benue together.

And the former Senate president shouted: “PDP!”
To this, the group from Benue which included the former minister of interior, Abba Moro shouted: “Change the Change!”
The former Senate president finally said: “That is the message we have for Nigerians.”
The party’s motto was formerly “Power to the People”, but NAIJ.com cannot authoritatively say if the party now wishes to use “Change the Change” as its new motto.

Also speaking at the convention, the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu said the development brought to Nigeria by the past administration cannot be overemphasized.
Ekweremadu: “We brought telecommunication to Nigeria, and today everybody in Nigeria is using a GSM, by this time last year, we chased Boko Haram to Sambisa forest, and they remained there till we handed over power to the APC.”
“But today, Boko Haram is all over Nigeria. We are ready today enthrone a PDP president and effect the same progress as we did before,” Ekweremadu added.
Since its convention, the has suffered many controversies with two courts reinstating different party chairmen simultaneously on the same day.
On Tuesday, May 24, a Federal High Court in Lagos sacked Makarfi and reversed the caretaker committee constituted by the party in Port Harcourt last Saturday, May 21.
The party had sacked its chairman, Ali Modu Sherriff and appointed a former governor of Kaduna state, Ahmed Makarfi as its acting chairman.
Also, another high court sitting in Port Harcourt had earlier granted an interim injunction restraining Sheriff and Adewale Oladipo as parading themselves as PDP officials pending hearing and determination of a motion on notice brought before it by the party. The court mandated Nigeria’s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the caretaker committee led by Makarfi.
