Forest Service could charge for Cottonwood canyon hikes

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The National Forest Service is considering charging $6 per vehicle for the use of popular trails in Utah's Big and Little Cottonwood canyons.

The agency says it doesn't have enough money to keep up with the 5 to 6 million visitors each year, and the fees would go toward maintaining trail heads, bathrooms, trails, picnic sites and parking areas.
