Federal election 2016: Australian voters overwhelmingly back Malcolm Turnbull's plebiscite policy

Support for same-sex marriage has surged to its highest ever level, while Malcolm Turnbull has received a late boost with the Coalition's plan to hold a national plebiscite on the issue also backed by a thumping majority of Australian voters.
