The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has expressed shock and sadness over the sudden death of Ojo Maduekwe, a former Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation.

In a condolence letter he personally delivered to the wife of Maduekwe in Abuja, Mohammed described the former minister as a patriot, who displayed uncommon passion and zest in the service of the nation, Vanguard reports.

“There is no doubt that his death is a big loss, not only to his immediate and extended family but to the entire Nigerian nation, which he served so well in many capacities, including as Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation; Minister of Transport; Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as Ambassador to Canada,” he said.
Mohammed asked Maduekwe’s wife and the entire family to take solace in the good name he left behind as well as his legacy of service to fatherland.
He also prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed.
Family, friends and associates were thrown into mourning following Maduekwe’s death on Wednesday, June 29.
He was said to have fallen ill on a flight from Dubai and was rushed to the hospital as soon as the plane landed in Abuja where he passed away before doctors could attend to him.
Reacting to the sudden demise of the former minister, Atiku Abubukar, a former vice president said he was saddened by Maduekwe’s death, while praying for his soul to rest in peace.
