Juneau glacial outburst predicted to top last year's floods
A depression called Suicide Basin, which is filled with rain and melted glacier water, began draining into Mendenhall Lake and Mendenhall River Thursday.
Some homes could experience flooding once water levels reach 9 feet, officials say.
According to Ramonda and Mike Dilger, recreation resources planner with the Juneau Ranger District, Skaters Cabin Road will likely have to be closed at some point Friday.
