Lang 2 behind leader Ko entering US Women’s Open final round
[...] that was the third round, an exercise in serenity compared with the rising adrenaline and nerves awaiting in Sunday’s final round of the U.S. Women’s Open.
Lang will begin play at 5-under, in the next-to-last group and two shots behind leader Lydia Ko.
Every part of you wants to be pulled to the outcome: ‘Oh, wow, wouldn’t it be so great to win?’ And the more you think about that, the quicker you’re going to move down the leaderboard.
Lang stands closest to the lead among U.S. players at CordeValle, behind Ko (New Zealand), Sung Hyun Park (Korea) and Eun-Hee Ji (Korea).
American players have won just two of the past eight Women’s Opens, since Kerr’s victory in 2007 — Paula Creamer at Oakmont in ’10 and Michelle Wie at Pinehurst in ’14.
Trump protest: A handful of protesters gathered near the entrance to CordeValle on Saturday, distributing flyers protesting the USGA’s plan to host next year’s U.S. Women’s Open at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey.
The flyer cited presidential candidate Donald Trump’s refusal to “negotiate with his largely female Las Vegas workforce as equals” and contended, “The golf community should not let Trump host the 2017 Women’s Open.”
USGA officials have no plans to move next year’s Women’s Open, though spokesman Adam Barr said by email, During his presidential campaign, Mr. Trump has made some remarks that are at odds with our belief that golf should be welcoming and inclusive for all.
