Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leader in sugarcane production this year, after Maharashtra failed to retain the top slot. This has been possible partially by the use of a newly released variety of sugarcane, Co0238, that has been developed by a team of scientists led by Bakshi Ram, director of Sugarcane Breeding Research Institute in Coimbatore
