Police in Lagos have averted a grave danger after militants planning to attack the city were apprehended.
There has been a rise in the activity of militants in the Niger Delta region with the notorious Niger Delta Avengers claiming responsibility for series of bombing of oil and gas pipelines in the region.

Militants have also attacked some parts of Lagos and Ogun in recent weeks and it was reported that gained entrance into Lagos through the waterways.
Vanguard reports that two militants were apprehended as they planned to attack Igando community in Lagos.
Mrs Dolapo Badmos who is the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command said the suspects were apprehended on Thursday, July 7
She said that some residents of Igando alerted the police of the attempted attack by the suspected militants, who came in a boat through the waterways. The police were able to stop them before the carried out the attack and recovered three guns and ammunition.
She said: “Immediately, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, deployed his men to the area. Two suspects were arrested with some weapons”, the spokesperson said.
The security of the area has been beefed up; the command has begun investigation into the attempted attack.

“The police will find out who they are, where they came from and their mission.
“We advise members of the public in the area and other parts of the state not to panic as the police are on top of the situation.
