The star studded USA basketball team smashed Nigeria’s D’Tigers 110-66 in a pre-Rio Olympics 2016 exhibition game on Monday night, August 1, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
New York Knick power forward, Carmelo Anthony led the way for the Americans with 19 points, followed by Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson who scored 17.
Kevin Durant and DeMar DeRozan added 14 and 13 points respectively, while DeAndre Jordan and DeMarcus Cousins scored 10 points each to the give the US team an emphatic win over their counterpart.
Despite going into the Olympics without Lebron James and Steph Curry, team USA completed their Olympic warm-up tour with a 5-0 record, beating Argentina, China (twice), Venezuela and Nigeria by an average margin of 43 points.
Nigeria on their part will be without Portland Trail Blazers forward, Al-Farouq Aminu, because of unresolved insurance issues with the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF).
The NBBF failed to assure Aminu that he will be taken care of, if he sustains any injury at the competition.
Aminu’s team-mate at Portland, Festus Ezeli, will also be out of D’Tigers squad due to the same reasons.
It was the first time USA and Nigeria played since August 2, 2012 when the Americans won by a whopping 156-73.
The defeat comes just days after the team alongside the entire Nigeria contingent to the Olympics were hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Team USA will open their Olympic schedule Saturday, August 6 against China, while D’Tigers begin their campaign against Argentina on Monday morning, August 8.
The Nigerians then face Croatia on Thursday night, August 10, before games against Spain, Brazil and Lithuania.
