The police have arraigned a 28-year-old man, Modiu Diallo, before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl in a mosque.

The accused who was arraigned on Monday, August 1, is alleged to have committed the offence at about 6am on July 13, at Iponri Central Mosque, Surulere, Lagos, according to the prosecutor Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
“It is a shameful act and that should not be condoled,” she said.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened Sections 135 (2) and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, when the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ekpaye Nwachukwu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Sept. 20 for mention.
In another development, Imam of the Prophet’s Mosque, Madinah, Saudi ArabiaSheikh Salah Bin Muhammad Al-Budair is expected to arrive Abuja tomorrow, August 3.
Daily Trust reports that the highly respected Muslim Cleric is to spend three days on his august visit.
During the visit, Al-Budair, considered one of the best Qur’anic reciters in the world, will lead the Juma’a Prayers at the National Mosque Abuja on Friday, August 5, 2016.
The imam is also scheduled to lead Magrib and Isha’i Prayers at the National Mosque on Wednesday, August 3 and Fajr on Thursday, August 4.
