Second NFP region backs DA in elections
The DA says it has another endorsement from the National Freedom Party, which did not register for the local government poll.
|||Cape Town - The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday said it had received a second endorsement from the National Freedom Party, which failed to register for the local government elections.
“The DA welcomes NFP Nongoma, and their sitting mayor, Jeremiah Bhekumthetho Mavundla’s endorsement and support of the Democratic Alliance in these local government elections. This follows consultation with NFP structures and branches,” said the DA’s KwaZulu-Natal leader Zwakele Mncwango.
The NFP in eDumbe also endorsed the DA, he said.
Mncwango urged the NFP in other regions of KwaZulu-Natal to follow suit, and for their supporters to cast their ballots for the official opposition.
“We call on members and supporters of the NFP to follow their example and join hands with the DA to bring change across KZN.”
The NFP has been excluded for taking part in Wednesday’s local government elections because it failed to pay its registration fees in time. The NFP broke away from the Inkatha Freedom Party months before the last local government elections in 2011.
Last week, the NFP denied reports that it had asked supporters to vote for the ANC.
