In a chat with NAIJ.com Sports in Ilorin on Tuesday, August 2, Kale Ayo divulged that the governor of the state will officially announce the process of immortalizing the late striker, who holds the record of Nigeria’s all time goalscorer with 37.
“Late Rashidi Yekini is from this state, and it is so sad that we have lost him years ago, but he is a hero and we have planned how we would immortalize him which will soon be made known by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
“What we want to do is what will surprise everyone, and it will soon be done by this present administration,” he said.
The commissioner also spoke about his achievements since he assumed office having replaced Saheed Popoola.
“There are so many plans by the ministry for youths in the state, most especially the awareness of HIV/AIDS, as you know that most of the youths are nonchalant about this virus.
“We have also secured funds of N30million from the United States embassy for the development of sports and we will surely make good use of the money,” he added.
However, football loving indigenes of the state have expressed dissatisfaction over the demotion of the state’s team from the NPFL to the NNL, but Kale Ayo assured that Kwara United will return to the top-flight, as government has vowed to support the team to secure the ticket.
“It is so sad that I came in when Kwara United relegated, and there are so many reasons for the team to have gone on relegation.
“In ensuring that the team return back to the Premier League was the reason why we appointed experienced coach John Obuh who is doing a great job for the team as Kwara United are currently topping the table in the NNL,” he raved.
He also shared his views about the current Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board under Amaju Pinnick claiming that a lot of distraction and failure to have logical plans have been the major obstacle worrying the NFF board.
“Amaju Pinnick’s administration began in distraction, and when you are being distracted, it is impossible for you to deliver as many issues will be giving you headache, and when you have an headache, it will be hard for you to plan.
“I want to advice Chris Giwa to hold his peace as Amaju Pinnick’s tenure will soon be over rather than engaging in all these wrangling which is putting us in a bad shape,” he concluded.
