Budget padding: Senate in trouble as EFCC takes action

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has beamed its searchlight on the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
This follows the controversy rocking the House of Representatives over an alleged padding of the 2016 Budget.

Vanguard reports that the anti-graft agency has begun investigation of the alleged padding of 2016 Budget in line with allegations contained in the petition by Hon Jibril Abdulmumin, the sacked chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations.

Jibrin was removed from his position as chairman by the speaker of the House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara. He was immediately replaced by Mustapha Bala, APC-Kano, who was the chairman of House Committee on Housing.
Following his removal, there have been accusations and counter accusation over budget padding between him and the leadership of the house.
On August 1, the sacked chairman submited a petition against Dogara to the EFCC.
Report surfaced on Thursday, August 4, that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had ordered Jibrin to stop issuing any public statement on the padding of the 2016 budget.
