Abia governorship tussle: PDP representatives clash in court

There was a brief drama at the Court of Appeal on Tuesday, August 9, over representation for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the resumed hearing on an application filed by the Abia state governor Okezie Ikpeazu when the court clerk called for parties present in the matter, a member of the party, Bashir Maidugu rose to introduce himself as the national legal adviser of the party.
Shortly after Maidugu’s announcement another party member Anuche Okoro rose to identify himself as the national director administration for the party.
But in a quick reaction, Maidugu rose to inform the court that he does not know Okoro.
However in anger the lead judge of a five-member panel Morenike Ogunwuniju said the court would not entertain intra-party matters.
A party member in the court told NAIJ.com that while Maidugu is the embattled national chairman of the PDP Ali Modu Sheriff faction while Okor is on the Ahmed Makarfi led faction.
But shortly after her ruling, another member of the party, Vincent Ogburuafor introduced himself as the former party national chairman and member PDP board of trustees.

Ogunwuniju angrily responded: “The board of trustee is not a party to this suit.”
“Please sit down or you will be escorted out of the court,” she yelled at Ogburuafor.
But Ogburuafor replied: “Thank you, my lord,” and took his seat.
Further, a counsel Okezie Ikpeazu, representing the second respondent – the PDP – told the court that it will be better for the court to expunge the name of the second respondent.
Meanwhile, the leadership tussle between the Ali Modu Sheriff and the Ahmed Makarfi factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resulted in the emergence of two state chairmen following parallel congresses held in Imo state.
Vanguard reports that the congresses which were held on Monday, August 8 in Owerri saw the Sheriff faction of the party has name Nnamdi Anyaehie as state chairman, while Chief Ezekwem emerged for the Ahmed Makarfi group.
