Warriors training camp preview: Draymond Green
Warriors training camp preview:
In the buildup to the start of training camp Sept. 27, The Chronicle is analyzing the Warriors player-by-player.
The fourth installment focuses on Draymond Green, who should be able to make people forget about his summer struggles.
2015-16: 14.0 points, 7.4 assists, 9.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.5 steals in 34.7 minutes per game
Three weeks after getting arrested in East Lansing, Mich., on assault charges (later reduced to a fine and a civil violation), he accidentally sent a picture of his most private part to his Snapchat followers.
[...] transgressions, though damaging to his reputation, hardly erase Green’s memorable 2015-16 season.
Green, who is capable of guarding all five positions, made the Warriors far more versatile defensively.
For the second year in a row, he finished second behind San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Green’s bravado and ruggedness make him Golden State’s emotional leader; someone teammates can rally around in trying stretches.
Many point to Green’s Game 5 suspension of the Finals, the result of what the league called a “retaliatory swipe” to LeBron James’ groin, as the series’ turning point.
Perhaps no team in NBA history has fielded a five-man lineup more dynamic than Green, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala.
Adding a reliable low-post scorer like Durant will free Green up for more spot-up jumpers.
