Johannesburg - Barloworld Equipment South Africa has acquired a strategic 20 percent stake in entrepreneurial technology company Optron Group for an undisclosed amount.
Optron represents leading technology solution brands throughout the sub-Saharan Africa region, including US Nasdaq-listed Trimble, which has a direct presence in more than 35 countries and through dealers in more than 125 countries and a joint venture with Caterpillar, Barloworld Equipment Southern Africa’s long-established strategic partner.
Charl Groenewald, the divisional executive director customer support at Barloworld Equipment, said yesterday that the acquisition strengthened the division’s relationship with its strategic partners.
“Our investment in Optron will give Barloworld Equipment Southern Africa access to new technologies as they come to market. We also believe that this investment will enable us to enhance our existing product offering.”
Trevor Venter, Optron’s chief executive, said they were excited to have Barloworld as a strategic partner. Barloworld shares declined 0.1 percent yesterday to R86.54.
