NSCDC arrests 50 militants, destroy 15 illegal refineries

Officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers state, have arrested about 50 suspected militants and runners of illegal refineries.
The officers also destroyed about 15 illegal refineries in different locations in the Niger Delta region, Daily Post reports.
Abdullahi Muhammadu, the Commandant-General of NSCDC, told newsmen in a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, September 15, that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday night, during a special operation by operatives of the NSCDC in the state.

He added that the suspects were being screened and profiled as part of investigations to know their level of culpability in pipeline bombings and vandalism in the Niger Delta region.
Muhammadu said that those found culpable of the offences during the investigators would be charged to court and prosecuted for economic sabotage.
In another development, the leader of the militant group, Bakasi Strike Force (BSF) has been apprehended by the Nigerian Navy.
Meanwhile, a Twitter user @Roland_speaks shared photos allegedly showing Niger Delta militants rescuing a drowning soldier of the Nigerian army.
The photo was captioned: ”A soldier being rescued from drowning by same people he was asked to come and kill in the Niger delta region.”
