Love scored 40 points, including an NBA-first-quarter-record 34, and the Cavaliers beat visiting Portland 137-125.
Love fell three points shy of the league record for points in any quarter, set by the Warriors’ Klay Thompson, who scored 37 in the third against Sacramento on Jan. 23, 2015.
LeBron James recorded his 44th career triple-double with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists, but thought Love owned the night.
Cleveland also set a franchise record with 20 three-pointers.
