Cal’s Malik McMorris moves like a ballerina with the ball
The phones of Malik McMorris’ family and friends all started buzzing in unison Saturday afternoon.
An ESPN app sent a breaking news notification after McMorris caught his first pass of the season in the first quarter of Cal’s 45-31 loss to Stanford.
“There are not a lot of drills that we have in our practices where we have guys that are 5-11, 305 pounds running with the football and you have to work on tackling them,” Stanford head coach David Shaw said.
To see him catch the ball and move and make people miss and run up the sideline was impressive.
There weren’t a lot of people lining up to take the opportunity to tackle that big man.
McMorris, who prepped with Cal players Chase Forrest, Justin Norbeck, Addison Ooms and Matt Rocket, got his name thrown around the Bears’ practice facility.
Then-offensive coordinator Tony Franklin became Facebook friends with McMorris, and the fullback took a shot.
Fullback is a dying breed in football.
McMorris wears a pink mouthguard in her honor, and when he scored his first touchdown last season, he pointed to the heavens.
