Wilcox, with local ties, interviews for Cal head job
A day after interviewing Cal offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, Williams on Wednesday met with Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox about the possibility of replacing Sonny Dykes, who was fired Sunday after going 19-30 in four seasons, including 1-11 against the Pac-12’s other California schools.
The 40-year-old was the linebackers coach at Cal for three seasons under Jeff Tedford.
If he gets the Cal job, some believe it will be a package deal as Wilcox could bring in recruiting maven Tosh Lupoi as the defensive coordinator.
Though big names, like Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and former 49ers/Eagles/Oregon head coach Chip Kelly, aren’t disappearing from fans’ wish lists, they seem like long-shot candidates.
[...] among possibilities are USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin and former Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who was fired Tuesday and interviewed with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday.
